Dear sweet lordy lord. I’ve become rather fond of linux in recent weeks. Using it exculisvely at work, I’ve spent more time on it than Windows, so much so that now in Windows I look for the close, minimise, maximise buttons on the wrong side of the window… Whoops. But I’m here to complain, as per usual, since as far as I can tell, they are ruining Ubuntu. Unity. Why? Let’s take a look…
Game of the Year: 2011
Amazing. 6 Months ago, I wrote a blog post predicting my personal game of the year 2011. What’s amazing about that? Well, only 4 posts followed, and now it’s December and the year is almost over. I’ve been busy, it’s strange how little time you have to do nothing when you work 5 days a week. Then I’ve actually also been doing stuff… The blog has got neglected. 2012 will see to that. Especially if the world ends, then it won’t matter. Yeah, let’s keep a light apocalyptic tone, shall we?
The problem with time
Hello. Yes. It’s been over a month. No we’re not going to dwell on it. A lot of things have happened since the last post. So I have excuses.. Their quality will naturally be up to you to determine. Like I care what you think anyway! (Please don’t leave, I didn’t mean it, I love you all! Well except you, yes, you. You know who you are… (one of these days that’ll actually freak someone out… Nobody actually seems to fall for it. (Maybe I need new material. (WOAH!! Too many nested brackets… )))).

The problem with Football Highlights
It’s Sunday evening. An odd day to be sure. For one thing, there was a football match on television. No I’m not talking about Sky… Well, there was one on Sky too… This was BBC 1! Granted it was a pretty mundane 1-0 Championship tussle, but football nonetheless. Also, the Community Shield took place and once again feature Manchester United. I’m not much of a fan, but I’m always up for a good comeback and a 3-2 win when down 2-0 at half time has to be good viewing. So, since I don’t have Sky I’d like to see the highlights. Unreasonable? Apparently so.
DRM, passes and prejudice
I’m actually starting to get quite annoyed now. Throughout history there has been the status quo, which was fine for those who liked it, and hell for those who did not. The problem is those who usually liked it were those who were gaining the most from the situation, which is usually the minority group. Making much sense? Think I’m talking about a cheesy Rock band? Too young to know who Status Quo are? Read on…
The problem with satisfaction
So, I’ve been mulling this over for a while now and since I’m having one of those days where I can’t really be bothered to do anything I thought I might turn my hand at writing a post or two… Yes I know It’s been almost a month since I wrote anything. I’m bad. I’ve been pondering the general state of existence and I have decided that anyone who says they are satisfied is lying. Shocked? Agree? Don’t care? Tough, read on…
Game of the Year 2011: A Predicition
2011 thus far looks fairly disappointing… But that’s because several games have been pushed back, and it’s only June! The best is yet to come. In theory. But what will that be? I have an inkling I already know my top games for this year, but I’m willing to be persuaded otherwise… So half way through the year, let’s predict what impact the next 6 months will have on the year…
A* for Idiots (like me)
If you’re not a nerd, look away now. This is a technical piece, though it is aimed at making it as simple as possible. Yes, that’s right, simple enough for me to do it. For the uninitiated, we’re looking at path-finding. A* path-finding to be precise. Sounds fancy, and it is actually pretty impressive. If you don’t know what path finding is, let’s break it down. If you don’t care, run away now.
The problem with The Hole
Intriguing topic. This isn’t about body parts, or just general crevices… This is a specific issue, with a specific hole. The 2001 film The Hole. I actually rather like it, surprisingly. I know right? I’m a fan of something? Crazy… If you haven’t seen it and want to, do that first. This is spoilerific. Oh, and I actually proofed this one, so if it doesn’t make sense then It’s just general incompetence…
The problem with LA Noire
LA Noire. Can’t really argue against it being one of the most innovative games of recent years, but is being different enough to get by? After all, Red Dead Redemption was simply but GTA 4 on horses. Gone are the horses, and indeed the chaotic crime, we’re actually the good guys now. Well. Marston was good with the option to be out of character bad, instead we’re Cole, good to the core. Did I say the crime was gone? Well, we no longer get to cause random acts of violence, except for the inevitable bouts of accidental vehicular homicide. Instead this game plays rather like the “what happens next” to all the crime scenes in GTA. I tell you the cops would have a hard time unpicking some of the crime-scenes I’d have left behind, or worse yet the horrific task of following the path of poo-sprayed destruction in Stillwater… No instead, we’re in Hollywoodland.
