A* for Idiots (like me)

If you’re not a nerd, look away now. This is a technical piece, though it is aimed at making it as simple as possible. Yes, that’s right, simple enough for me to do it. For the uninitiated, we’re looking at path-finding. A* path-finding to be precise. Sounds fancy, and it is actually pretty impressive. If you don’t know what path finding is, let’s break it down. If you don’t care, run away now.

The problem with The Hole

Intriguing topic. This isn’t about body parts, or just general crevices… This is a specific issue, with a specific hole. The 2001 film The Hole. I actually rather like it, surprisingly. I know right? I’m a fan of something? Crazy… If you haven’t seen it and want to, do that first. This is spoilerific. Oh, and I actually proofed this one, so if it doesn’t make sense then It’s just general incompetence…

The problem with LA Noire

LA Noire. Can’t really argue against it being one of the most innovative games of recent years, but is being different enough to get by? After all, Red Dead Redemption was simply but GTA 4 on horses. Gone are the horses, and indeed the chaotic crime, we’re actually the good guys now. Well. Marston was good with the option to be out of character bad, instead we’re Cole, good to the core. Did I say the crime was gone? Well, we no longer get to cause random acts of violence, except for the inevitable bouts of accidental vehicular homicide. Instead this game plays rather like the “what happens next” to all the crime scenes in GTA. I tell you the cops would have a hard time unpicking some of the crime-scenes I’d have left behind, or worse yet the horrific task of following the path of poo-sprayed destruction in Stillwater… No instead, we’re in Hollywoodland.

The problem with Super Injunctions

Hey. So, as far as I’m aware there still a super injunction going on, and even if they aren’t suing everyone on twitter, I’m still not going to invite any legal action against myself because I’m poor and insignificant. But, unless you live under a rock, or you do happily but that rock doesn’t get access to the internet, you’ve probably spotted the story about a footballer, and a random z list celebrity bimbo. This story is absolutely fascinating…

Adverts that won’t work…

I watch a reasonable amount of TV. Lots of channels have adverts, this is nothing new, although the levels they’ll go to be obnoxiously annoying are somewhat impressive. Also, videos on the internets are getting progressively more and more annoying… Some of them are becoming painful. I’ve always got a few complaints but these take the cake. In fact they baked the cake and grew the ingredients. They suck.

Gears 3 multiplayer beta be beta than Gears 2

That title is horrible. I’m already regretting it, but here I am committed to my mistakes. One of which was playing Gears 2 on-line. Oh my god talk about miserable… Horde mode was a laugh with mates, but competitive MP was not good. I’ve pretty much tapped out all I can from RDR, and despite my better instincts I’ve even got Black Ops… Maybe I like competitive online gaming, well, with friends anyway… Gears 2 was a shocking disappointment, but there was a sneak peak at Gears 3. Could they fix it? Let’s see…

Video Game Themes

Music. Admit it, a lot of games would be nowhere without music, least of all Guitar Hero et al… Video games have had some epic tunes, but which is the best? Lot’s of suggestions, and a never ending dispute between fan-boys and the like will mean a definitive greatest ever video game theme will be impossible to be agreed upon. Besides, I don’t really care what everyone else thinks, so here are some of my favourite theme tunes. Hopefully you might agree with some choices, or find some new tunes you’ve never heard. In any case, if you disagree. Tough. I like them.
